Bio:
Josey Jessee (b. 2000) is an artist and college student currently living in Savannah, GA. Jessee was born and raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, until she left to attend college at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in 2018.
Thanks to her family, Jessee has been immersed in the fine arts since birth. Her mother is an art collector and her father a photographer. She was encouraged to create by her parents and, as such, has been making paintings since she was four. This art-positive environment ultimately led her to study many different art disciplines in college before finally settling on painting as her major.
Jessee mainly works with acrylic in abstract ways. She employs a strong use of color in her work, resulting in vibrant compositions. Besides traditional media, she has started to work with new media art, mainly digital and video.
Jessee graduated in the Summer of 2022 from SCAD with a BFA in Painting. Jessee is still deciding where she plans to move next. However, regardless of where she ends up, her cat Bread will be with her, and so will her art.
Statement:
As a young adult, having grown up with social media and advertising, I cannot help but become influenced by the idea that perfection is achievable. Growing up, I have constantly considered myself different or “other” from my peers. This inseparable part of my identity has caused me to strive for perfection throughout my life. If I was perfect, maybe I could blend into the crowd. If I were perfect, perhaps all my issues would lessen. The work I am creating is a visual representation of how the goal of trying to achieve perfection—in our work and in ourselves—is incompatible with the messiness of life.
I accomplish this in two ways: first, by using white acrylic panels that have been laser cut to create perfect geometric-shaped holes, and second, by creating abstract expressionist paintings on panels that represent the chaos in our lives. The process of assembling the works is part of the experience. While building my work, it becomes apparent that even the acrylic panel is not perfect. The closer you look, the more the defects stand out.
Ultimately I’ve come to realize that even perfection is flawed. By assembling these two components into a whole piece, the viewer is confronted with the abstract concept of perfectionism put into physical terms. I want viewers to consider how this concept of perfection affects their daily lives when viewing my work.

Biography: I am a multitasking Canadian / Brazilian professional artist, I am a member of the International Association of Visual Artists (IAVA). I was born in Sao Paulo (where I studied design and architecture).
For several years I taught how to draw and art history. I arrived in Canada in 2012, where I obtained another degree in Visual Arts at Laval University. I have lived and worked in Rouyn-Noranda, province of Quebec, since 2014. For several years I taught how to draw and art history. I arrived in Canada in 2012, where I obtained another degree in Visual Arts at Laval University. I have lived and worked in Rouyn-Noranda, province of Quebec, since 2014.
Among my multiple skills, the most important is illustration. Also, I have skills in photography, acrylic painting, watercolor, pastel, screen printing, lithography, wash-off, scratchboard, wood burning and some non conventional materials (such as eye shadows, for example). My work is very eclectic. In my journey, I explore different techniques (conventional and non conventional). My principal goal is illustration. I draw with pencils, brushes, wood burners and other tools. I look to create an impact on the public with my art. As a citizen of 2 countries, I don’t have any specific aesthetic. My work is at times realistic, at others surreal / abstract. I seek the perfection of images from the classical past combined with the attitude and abstraction of contemporary arts. The nature and complexity of human forms are my sources of inspiration. I use vibrant colors and strong contrasts on minimalist representations. My work is very luminous and vibrant. After the pandemics, I realized the world was really dark, almost miserable because of the situation. I canalized all negative energy at that moment and started to explore and research. Pandemics opened a new door for me, the world’s door. I started to know people from different parts of the planet and inspire my artwork on those people. All characters I had in my 2020 and 2021 production are inspired by real people from different countries. Ordinary people with real problems that never thought one day could be in an art piece.
At last, I draw what I see, what I feel and I do it with passion and instinct.

Her activity has been from 2009 until now (painting and photography)
And she is interested in surreal and abstract and linear designs.
Beyond our intellect and logic, there are worlds that sometimes communicate with us, Creatures that live in our world.
Some from our kind and some others from kinds that are probably unfamiliar to most of us;
Many of us, humans, cannot see them as we are unable to see inner nature and emotions of our fellowman. As technology develops, humans become blind and have lost existential truth of each other and even themselves;
As if we became blind…
A frightening scream in a world that all claim sight, is complicated, while the most blind humans where those who didn’t want to see not others who couldn’t see.
Ultimately, this blindness influences everyone and takes consciousness and cognition from people in one moment, and then there’s no culture and no humanity. Technology won’t work anymore and fear and shock fills the heart of any human and will lead him to the dark like his eyes.

Biography: Why do I do my art? A valid question I suppose. The best reason I have been able to come up with is that I love to create! There is just something so fulfilling about getting lost in the process of creating…time stands still. To be able to look at an image, object or scene and recreate it on canvas or paper in the most realistic way that I can. Being able to share with someone what I’ve captured on the canvas or paper brings me so much satisfaction.

Artist Statement:
It is difficult to orient yourself toward the world and towards your aspirations as a graphics artist. The endless softwares, hardwares, grids, and codes out there make it that much more complex for one to relate a particular feeling or state of mind to their audience, and since my mood towards the world is in a constant flux, this complexity is tripled, and most of the time it is inescapably overwhelming.
At this very moment, I believe my experiments in design reflect that dual complexity of tech and emotional discharge. At the very least, my designs are an unconscious accumulation of both of these things. I use this dynamic often while I am in the works of a project. Some days this works to my strategic advantage and others not so much, but I firmly believe that this principle guides not only my work, but my very being. The balance that seems to always help bridge these conflicting principles is the usage of typography and letterform.
It is the love of written word and the obsession with design principles that join to work with the conflicts mentioned previously. Those clashing ideas are brought forward in such a way as to explain how I am feeling towards the world, my world, and the influence each one has on the other.
As a student, I am still learning the process, still engaging in those basic principles that others seem to have conquered so easily, and applying my newfound understandings to my works. I am constantly being challenged by new processes and so my hope is that while I am feeling the process out, that challenge and daring pokes forth from my works.
