BROTA invites artists from all over the world to create in dialogue with the cosmopolitan and dynamic city of Buenos Aires in Argentina. BROTA residency dedicates particular attention to projects exploring the interplay of nature and urban environment, within the Anthropocene the current geological epoch of extensive human modification of ecological and geological processes. The word combines the root “anthropo”, meaning “human” with the root “-cene”, the standard suffix for “epoch” in geologic time.
“BROTA” means -sprout- which is one of our residency objectives: see emerge, develop and thrive artist’s work and projects that can be part of this unique and enriching experience. The selection of the artists will be based on the artistic quality of their work, their motivation and their potential to make the most of the opportunity offered by the residency. The open call is all year round and English, Spanish and French language is spoken.
If there is a word that defines Argentina, it is diversity. The Argentine Republic is located in the extreme south of the American continent and its name refers to the richness of the soil (from the Latin, argentum, ´silver´). In the almost three million square kilometers of the territory we can find all types of climates and the most spectacular views. Many of them declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. To the diversity of the landscapes, the diversity of our people is added. Between 1880 and 1950, Argentina received five million inhabitants who bequeathed us the values of sacrifice, the importance of hard work and also taught us how to celebrate life. Taking this diversity as a motivation and promoting artistic concern, BROTA residency program aims to give artists a unique and enriching artistic experience, conforming it into a creative factory.
