Fully funded Art residency in Germany, Künstlerhäuser Worpswede program
Künstlerhäuser Worpswede invites applications for four Quarter Fellowships for 2021 on the theme of the Scholarship Site of the Future.
At Worpswede, a place steeped in tradition, we want to initiate a process that will involve asking questions about the future of art production: The conditions for a future-oriented, sustainable scholarship site are to be explored. In particular, we want to consider where and how art can be created, what funding conditions are needed for this, and what social relevance protective spaces have and need for artistic production.
We are looking for projects with hybrid approaches. We value experimental modes of expression and formats that transcend conventional disciplinary boundaries.
Artist duos and working collectives are welcome, as are partners and joint children (with additional payment of incidental costs).
The artistic direction of the Künstlerhäuser Worpswede accompanies the process and initiates meetings between the fellows, promotes exchange and dialogue about the results and experiences, and organizes a public presentation of the work at the end of the year in Worpswede.
What do the Künstlerhäuser Worpswede offer:
o A (rent & utilities free) living and working studio of about 35 sqm plus a separate bedroom as well as basic equipment (kitchenette, private bathroom with toilet).
o Living cost support of Euro 1.000 per month (sponsored by the Karin & Uwe Hollweg Foundation)
o Quiet and inspiring working atmosphere on the edge of the Teufelsmoor in the historic artists’ village of Worpswede
o Contacts and network connections to other local and international artists
o Access (in the center of Worpswede) to a printing workshop “Die Künstlerpresse” and workshop use in the “Atelierhausgemeinschaft”.
o Exhibition possibility in the project space “Albert Hall” as well as in the “Große Kunstschau Worpswede”.
Application Requirements:
o Application is open to all practitioners (artists, architects, humanities & social scientists, etc.).
o Application with a concrete work project on the thematic background of a scholarship site of the future. Embedded in the topic are questions such as…
– what are the conditions for the production of art?
– what is the ideal place where art can be created?
– what role does the environment play (city vs. countryside, etc.)?
– what do contemporary funding structures have to look like?
o willingness to work in Worpswede for three months and to live in the Künstlerhäuser
o willingness to exchange with other scholarship holders
o Co-organization and participation in a public event

Over 700 artists have benefitted from the programme since its foundation in 1987.
Acme makes every effort to assist visiting artists with the practical, cultural, and social aspects of their stay. In addition to managing the studio live/workspace, Acme works actively with visiting artists to assist with their networking, practical and research needs and allowing them to develop relationships and focus on their work in a supported environment. Acme staff are available to artists for residency pre-planning, local orientation and for assistance and advice throughout the residency.
The overall aim of Acme’s Residencies & Awards Programme is to offer artists a supported environment and real professional development throughout the residency period. Fully Funded Art residency in Lithuania
Rupert is inviting applications for residencies, calling local and international cultural practitioners and thinkers (artists, writers, curators, researchers, managers and academics) willing to live and work in Vilnius from 1 to 3 months in 2023 (January–December) and develop individual or collaborative projects, reflections and research while immersing themselves in the region’s contemporary art field.
Located in the picturesque area of Valakampiai in Vilnius and only a short distance from the lively city centre, Rupert sits by one of river Neris’ small beaches, surrounded by peaceful fields and a forest. Three residency studios are located in the ‘Tech Arts’ building designed by award-winning Lithuanian architect Audrius Ambrasas.
PARTNERS OF THE RESIDENCY PROGRAMME
Lithuanian Council for Culture
Tech Arts
Vilnius Municipality
Nordic Culture Point
Duration of residency
Individual residencies can last from 1 to 3 months. Residents are asked to propose their preferred duration of stay and, if accepted, this can be negotiated according to studio availability and schedule.
Accommodation
Each resident is provided with a studio space that has a mezzanine (approximately 52 m2) to be used as a space for production, research and living during the residency. The studio is fully furnished and equipped with WiFi. There is a number of other organisations and companies in the building and it also houses a reading room, gallery space, conference room and a kitchen, all of which are open for residents to use.
Disciplines, work equipment and assistance
During the residency, residents are provided with curatorial assistance in their research process, with at least two studio visits from art professionals, as well as connections to the local art scene. Although this is certainly not a requirement, we welcome residents to engage with Rupert’s public and alternative education programmes, present their work in public events and organise discussions. Some of the residents are invited to take part in the Open Studio podcast series or Rupert’s Journal. Rupert seeks to establish long-standing relations with residents and if there are opportunities, they are often invited to participate in exhibitions and events presented as part of the centre’s programme.
Fees and support
All the residencies are FREE this application round thanks to support from the Lithuanian Council for Culture and the studios provided by the creative industries hub Tech Arts. Applicants are responsible for covering personal (daily and travel) expenses. Rupert’s team will issue acceptance letters for successful residents and support their applications for external grants to cover travel, food, production and other costs.
Expectations towards the artist
In the application, prospective residents are invited to present a project they will be working on during the residency. This does not have to be a project created specifically for Rupert. You may work on your selected subject using your preferred means or continue your creative practice. However, applicants are encouraged to specify whether their intended proposal is more research-based or oriented towards a production-based project, requiring particular materials.
Application information
Please fill in the online application form and submit the necessary documents via Rupert’s website:
Application Form (https://rupert.lt/ruperts-residency-programme-application-form/)
The deadline for applications is 1 JULY 2022, 23:59, EEST.

The application will only be automatically registered after submitting the payment. If you have any questions or difficulties with the payment, please contact us.
Successful applicants will be selected for online interviews with the residency admissions jury (Rupert’s team and an external member), which will take place in September 2022. The results of this open call will be announced by the end of September 2022.
