ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM in Germany-SCHIESSLHAUS AiR
In 2022, the international artists’ residence SCHIESSLHAUS AiR will be launching a publicly funded residency program in the Bavarian Forest. Artists and creative professionals from Germany and abroad are invited to apply for a two-month residency at the “Schießl-Haus” in Kollnburg. Four stipends of 1.200 EUR per month will be awarded. The residency program is process-oriented: it focuses on time, space and encounter. It seeks to inspire open-ended interdisciplinary dynamics, exchange and dialogue, participation and reflection.

WHO CAN APPLY
Open for visual artists of all disciplines, as well as for other creative fields such as film, theater, literature, architecture, sound, design, and music. We especially encourage applications that seek to pursue interdisciplinary approaches at the interfaces of art, science/theory, media and technology. Applications are open to individuals and/or collectives from Germany and abroad. There is no age restriction.

The artists’ residence
The artists’ residence SCHIESSLHAUS AiR is housed in a historic monument. The so-called “Schießl-Haus” is a historical craftsman’s house (“Waldlerhaus”). Today, after a professional renovation with a focus on the greatest possible authenticity, the 250-year-old house is one of the sights of the castle village of Kollnburg. It was awarded the Monument Prize of the District of Lower Bavaria in 2019 and the Bavarian Monument Protection Medal in 2020.
Facilities
The modern and functional furnishings of the artists’ residence create optimal living and working conditions.The common areas are located on the first floor: a cozy living room with a wood-burning stove, a fully equipped kitchen with a seating area, a storage and utility room, and two sanitary rooms (bathroom and toilet). The upper floor is divided into three spacious individual bedrooms and private rooms, including a room with its own sink and separate parlor.The light-flooded, communal working studio is located on the upper floor. The studio consists of an approx. 22 square meter workroom with two large windows, a double door leading to the outside, and an inside sink. There are desks in all rooms for individual work. The spacious attic functions as an archive and office of the artistic directors. The garden and balcony face southeast and combine the outdoor areas of the house.
The guest artists can freely design and use the rooms of the residence during their two-month residency, in mutual agreement with the other residents. The purpose of the rooms is to be understood as a flexible and changeable concept that offers different possibilities and formats, especially with regard to the exhibition and display of artistic projects. In addition to the indoor area, the outdoor area of the house can also be used for exhibitions and events.
Disciplines, work equipment and assistance
Disciplines
The residency program is open for visual artists of all disciplines, as well as for other creative fields such as film, theater, literature, architecture, sound, design, and music.
Equipment
There is wireless internet (WLAN) throughout the house. From spring 2022 on, there will also be fiber optic internet. Towels and bed linen are provided, as well as cleaning of the common rooms after public events. The artists are responsible for their own working materials. A beamer, printer and basic tools are available for common use. Washing machine and dryer are available.
Studio / Workspace
The light-flooded, communal working studio is located on the upper floor. The studio consists of an approx. 22 square meter workroom with two large windows, a double door leading to the outside, and an inside sink. Moreover, in all private rooms there is a lot of space for individual work.

Expectations towards the artist
Participation in three public events: Talk/Workshop, Open Studios, Final Exhibition.
Application information
Jury
On the awarding of the residency stipends decides a jury consisting of the artistic directors of the SCHIESSLHAUS AiR, Anna-Helena Klumpen and Katrin Savvulidi, the first mayor of the Municipality of Kollnburg, Herbert Preuß, another member of the municipal council and 2-3 members of the independent Board of Advisors. A special feature of the selection process and the awarding of the SCHIESSLHAUS AiR grants is the participation of the applying artists through a separate nomination process.

All submissions that are incomplete or received after the deadline (i.e. after 24:00 on the day of the application deadline) will not be considered.
