AIR organizes a get-together each month, where all current scholarship holders are invited to introduce themselves and to provide insight into their artistic work. In light of the Russian Invasion of Ukraine and the threat the war poses on civilians, including academics, the Field of Excellence “Dimensions of Europeanization”, the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Graz are supporting three fellows from the Ukraine to spend one semester (4 months) in Graz to conduct and present research and collaborate with other researchers.
The Ukrainian Scholars at Risk Fellowships are established to provide Ukrainian academics currently under threat due to the Russian Invasion an academic home during the war and allow them and their families to be in safety and space to continue their work. The fellowships are currently open for researchers in the fields of humanities, law and the fields covered by the overall focus of the Field of Excellence. The Field of Excellence “Dimensions of Europeanization” deals with a broad range of processes that could be described as “Europeanization” in past and present. It focuses on the analysis of changing discourses of Europe, especially in regard to the transfer of concepts, values and ideas. The Field of Excellence explores the field of Europeanization through interdisciplinary approaches, incorporating sociology, history, geography, cultural studies, literature, law, political science, economics, theology, as well as digital methods. It currently includes 30 principal investigators from five different faculties and the inter-faculty Center for Southeast European Studies at the University. The Field of Excellence includes doctoral training, research projects and a fellowship program.
The Visiting Fellows will receive a monthly stipend of 1250 € for the duration of 4 months (March – June 2022) and travel costs to Graz (of up to 500 €). The Visiting Fellows will receive workspace, library access and will be able to participate in the activities of the Field of Excellence “Dimensions of Europeanization”, the Faculties, and participating institutes, as well as the Centre for Southeast European Studies.
The university will cover liability and accident insurance, while health insurance needs to be covered by fellows. Fellows will not be employed by the University of Graz.
The fellowship is open to Ukrainian citizens and resident in Ukraine at the time of the invasion or directly affected by the war. Application should include a CV, and a motivation letter. The fellowships can be taken up immediately after being awarded.

Art residency in Austria in MuseumsQuartier Errichtungs- und BetriebsgesmbH
Country: Austria
Deadline: December 2022
About
Since October 2002, international artists who do not normally reside in Austria have the opportunity to live and work at Q21 as Artists-in-Residence. By now, nine live/work studios are available in the MQ complex.
These studios will be predominantly linked to the cultural providers of Q21. In special cases, the studios can be allocated to applicants recommended by other cultural institutions.
The objective of this program is to expand the role of the MuseumsQuartier Wien as one of the world’s largest contemporary cultural complexes over the medium and long term, above all through the active and continuous involvement of international creative artists, and to promote international cultural exchange, in particular with Austria’s direct neighbours and other European countries.
The financing of the studio program is accomplished with the assistance of sponsors (currently tranzit.org / ERSTE Foundation) and allows us to make the studios available free of charge along with a monthly stipend. Other cooperations exist with the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs, the program “tranzit.org/ERSTE Foundation”.
Eligibility
Stipends in Q21 require the artists’ presence on location, i.e. artists are required to spend at least three quarters of the stipend period in Vienna.
There are no age limits for stipends.
English language skills are required.
Decisions on awarding the artist studios are made by the management of MuseumsQuartier Errichtungs- und BetriebsgesmbH.
In order to apply for the Q21 residency, a recommendation of one of Q21’s over 50 cultural institutions is necessary.
Presentation of the recommendation by the cultural provider or other cultural institutions does not automatically establish the right to award of a stipend.
In case of events within the context of the Q21 Artist-in-Residence Program, the residency has to be mentioned on printed matters, press releases etc.
Benefits
MuseumsQuartier Errichtungs- und BetriebsgesmbH makes the studios available for the duration of the stipend including all utilities.
The artist is given EUR 1,050.00 per month to cover expenses. These funds are paid out by MuseumsQuartier Errichtungs- und BetriebsgesmbH.
Coordination of selection and time scheduling as well as support service for the artist in cooperation with the recommending institution.
Coordination and Supervision
The Artist-in-Residence program is currently coordinated by staff of the MQ E+B GesmbH. For the organization of travel to the MuseumsQuartier, the logistics of moving into the studio with an introduction to the MQ complex, and general questions and organizational matters, the artist can contact Q21 Coordination. A list with contacts will be provided to artists at the beginning of their stay.
Basic support for the recommended stipend recipients is primarily provided by the respective cultural provider. The objective is to involve the invited artists as intensively as possible in the operation of Q21. In particular, in the course of or as a result of their stay in the MQ, the international artists should also be given an opportunity to present their works or projects developed in collaboration with the inviting and supporting Q21 partners.
Registration
The applications for the artist-in-residence program are registered with the MQ E+B Ges. – Elisabeth Hajek using a registration form. If an applicant is chosen, he or she will receive confirmation in writing.
The following information must be provided in digital form no later than upon the registration of an artist:
