We are open for projects for multidisciplinary residencies in July 2022.
Córtex Frontal is located in Arraiolos, in Alentejo, Portugal. We provide housing, studios and technical/artistic/critical support. We organise study trips to artistic/cultural/industrial heritage and workshops.
Workgroups in residence (up to 15 people) for short, mid or long term are welcome.

Accommodation
Artists accommodation and house studios are located in the center of the town, in a XVIII century manor house.The area for residency has: 8 rooms, 4 bathrooms. 1 kitchen, living and dining room, meeting and projection room. Studios and work spaces, terrace, garden and courtyard. Single artists will be accommodated in private rooms with a private or shared bathroom according to availability.Big groups can reserve the whole house for them if noticed in advance.

Visual arts / Performative arts / Music / Literature.Residency structureWe offer a general structure to the resident artist that might vary according to each project:Regular feedback and follow up of the projects by professional artists/curators.Study visits to the natural, historical or industrial heritage.Resident´s formal or informal gatherings.Monthly schedule of the residency, local and regional events.According to the projects and the artists plans we can also organize thematic workshops such as traditional embroidery (Arraiolos is well known for its embroidery rugs) and networking with our partners.
Studio / Workspace
According to the discipline and needs there will be assigned a working space for each artist in a private or shared studio. Each working space is furnished with table, chair, light, shelves and wall boards. The residency has a printmaking studio, photo studio with EPSON Surecolor 6000, a piano Yamaha Clavinova as well as video projectors and speakers.
Fees and support
Residency fee includes:
- Private accommodation in the house. Private or shared bathroom (according to availability).
- Access to shared areas (equipped kitchen, dining and living rooms, terrace, patio and garden).
- All bills, wifi, access to laundry and bikes.
- 24h access to studios.
- Regular follow up of the project with professional artists/curators.
- 1 year membership with discounts in our workshops and participation in our events.
If you are applying for a grant in your country or community we will gladly write a letter of support with all the information required.
Expectations towards the artist
Arranged on a case by case basis and depending on the artist´s time/plans we will organise a final work event: Open Studio event, artist talk, concert, workshop, etc *Due to Covid-19 crisis any public events in 2021-22 are not guaranteed
