Studio Faire is a contemporary art space in South West France, providing residencies for visual artists, makers, photographers, designers, musicians, writers, creative researchers and all other types of creative practitioner.

Studio Faire is now inviting applications for this 2 week residency in the Autumn of 2022. We accept applications year-round, for residencies between April and October. Applications for 2023 Residencies are also welcomed.

Residents live and work in the house, studios and gardens of Studio Faire, a ‘Maison de maître’ built around 1830 and still retaining its period characteristics. It is the private home of Scottish couple Julia Douglas (Mixed Media Artist/Designer) and Colin Usher (Photographer/Designer/Drummer). There will be two other residents at Studio Faire during this period.

The house is situated in the centre of the market town (and historic city) of Nérac, in the stunning Lot-et-Garonne region of South West France.

Residencies offer time to focus on research and development to inspire a new body of work or develop an existing project. They can nurture the growth of seedling ideas by giving the space to unselfconsciously experiment and play without expectation or obligation.

Duration of residency

Residencies are self-funded and self-directed, and can last 2 weeks, 3 weeks or 4 weeks. This open call is for 2 weeks (13 nights) in October 2022.

Accommodation

A private, newly decorated, double bedroom is provided on the first floor of the house, offering a small desk plus two windows overlooking the large back garden.

Disciplines, work equipment and assistance

This open call is for visual artists, photographers, performers, film-makers, theatre-makers and craft-makers who use any media other than toxic pigments, spray paints or flammable or combustible products. Trestle tables and easels are available for use.

Studio / Workspace

The work space on offer for this particular open call is the Garage Studio. It has a large North facing double door. See the website for full details.

Fees and support

This 2 week self-directed residency is a self-funded residency for 1 person. Fees include: lifts to and from the nearest train station in Agen, a private double bedroom, sole use of the Garage studio, plus shared shower room, toilets, kitchen, dining room and gardens. 2 weeks for 1 person is 790 €.

Expectations towards the artist

As this is a self-funded residency, Studio Faire has no expectations towards the artist and hope that this supportive environment, without the pressure to produce, will aid creativity, experimentation and the development of new ideas. Studio Faire offers all creative practitioners a change of pace and the space to create.

For more than 20 years, A.I.R. Vallauris, the non-profit association and Artist Residency programme based in Vallauris, France, has welcomed international artists from all horizons to meet and collaborate with local artists and to research and create new work in an artistic laboratory created specifically for them.

In celebration of our first two decades of operation and as we embarque upon our third, we continue pursue our aim to provide an environment for artists that is condusive to and inspiring for new creation. In addition, these experiences are enriched through cultural exchange between participants of different countries, nationalities, and backgrounds and through the sharing of knowledge, techniques and experiences.

For the standard residency, A.I.R. Vallauris accommodates up to six artists in each phase for a set time period in its residence and studios. Using different mediums, artists (ceramists, sculptors, painters, photographers, musicians, video and multimedia) work from an equipped studio, live in individual furnished spaces and are afforded access to a gallery where their works are displayed and celebrated at the end of their residency period. Media involvement encourages the interest of an invited and engaged audience. Over the nineteen year period, since April 2002, over 350 artists of 30 different nationalities have participated in the A.I.R. Vallauris program.

L’AiR Arts residency program grounds its commitment to the contemporary arts within a historical perspective. Located in Montparnasse, known as a historic hub for international artists during the 20th century Ecole de Paris period, our residency program is dedicated to the historical legacy of this prolific period of intercultural and artistic exchange.

​In 2021, L’AiR Arts has initiated cultural heritage project of preserving and restoring the last atelier of the prominent artists community of Cité Falguière. Following the extensive research and restoration programme, the Atelier is scheduled to reopen in 2022 as an International Arts Research Residency – keeping its original purpose and the name, Atelier 11. A new emblematic home for L’AiR Arts, the Atelier 11 residency will welcome local and international professionals for solo and duo projects, that will run parallel to international group programs, partner residencies and events open to a broader community.

The L’AiR Arts Solo/Duo Residency at Atelier 11 is designed to provide artists and cultural professionals with the opportunity to carry out artistic projects, develop their research, workshop new ideas, and build their international network. The purpose of the residency is to foster cross-cultural exchanges and collaborations between the local art ecosystem, including Paris-based artists, scholars, curators, art critics, institutions, and galleries, and international artists and cultural professionals. Residents will have the opportunity to connect with other visiting and local professionals, exchange their ideas and skills, and present their work.

The L’AiR Arts group residency programs offer an immersive and stimulating experience of intercultural exchange, research and professional development. The residency not only provides the opportunity to explore Paris and have a space in which to comfortably stay and work, it also offers an insider’s view into the important role that international artists have played in Paris from the late 19th century to the present day.

In addition to a curated cultural programme, we make sure that there is a good balance between organized events and independent exploration of Paris. There is time for artists to self-organize into small groups and explore Paris together, share experiences, ideas, and meals, forging connections not only as colleagues but as people.

Duration of residency

The solo/duo residency at Atelier 11 is from 2 weeks to 2 months. The duration and exact dates are flexible and can be coordinated on a case-by-case basis, depending on the project and availability.The duration of the group residency depends on the program and might include both physical and online components. The physical part of the residency in Paris is usually for a period of 2 – 3 weeks.

Artists can select the accommodation in either a private or shared room. 

Disciplines, work equipment and assistance

While mostly focusing on visual arts, some sessions offer an in-depth exploration of a particular art discipline, such as drawing or photography, whereas others concentrate on the rich art history of the city and study its contemporary art scenes. The residency is focused on intercultural exchange, and although there is no expectation to produce art, we provide a shared workspace to do some small studies. Access to another specialized facility may be provided depending on the program.  Resident artists are invited to share their skills and ideas with fellow residents, during the facilitated events.

Fees and support

As L’AiR Arts is a not-for-profit organisation, our residency fee only aims to cover the costs, already subsidized by our individual and institutional partners. Our residency fee covers all the components, from the accommodation, most meals and local transportation, to creative space and curated programming. The exact fee depends on the particular program offer, its duration, accommodation preference and funding support. Our past residencies ranged from 60 to 160 euros per day/person, with many participants obtaining assistance from various funding agencies to fully cover their residency expenses.Limited scholarship opportunities are available through our program for artists based in less economically developed countries and artists chosen by art collectors / patrons on our selection committee.All the selected candidates receive an invitation letter indicating the specific fee of their residency, which can be used for further funding search through national and international agencies. To enhance the residency experience, participants are encouraged to participate in organized activities and exchange ideas with fellow residents.

L’AiR Arts online application process is free and open to artists and cultural professionals working in various disciplines, depending on the residency program. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and are short-listed for a final decision by the selection committee.

The program is aiming at artists, researchers and culture professionals from countries in war, who have recently received a refugee status in France. With the support of the French Ministry of culture, the ACCR has been coordinating the NORA artist-in-residence program for refugees exiled in France. The program is aiming at artists, researchers and culture professionals from countries in war, who have recently received a refugee status in France. The goal is to develop projects within French Heritage Sites for Culture (Centres culturels de rencontre), with the support of their team, and consequently getting a practical knowledge of French cultural, artistic and intellectual networks and building long-term connections and partnerships.  Initiated in 2016, NORA program has permitted to host in French Cultural centers for several months more than 50 artists from the Middle-East. Taking part in the NORA program helped them to connect with various professional structures working with poetry and visual arts and gave them time to concentrate on their artistic projects. Some of them managed to publish their first book, others were able to continue to create, make exhibitions, films etc. The 2022 call for projects is open. The call is aimed at artists, researchers and culture professionals from Near and Middle East and from Africa, who have recently received a refugee status in France; following countries will be examined in priority: Syria, Iraq, Libya, South Soudan, Eritrea and Yemen.  • Applications for a residency period in the area of artistic and cultural projects must be in line with the artistic project of the selected French cultural center (see list). Artists, researchers and culture professionals wanting to apply for a residency period in 2021 within a French Cultural Center, have to send their projects to the selected center, with one copy to the ACCR office, the 30th of June 2022.

Residents are staying free of charge, within the Centre that has accepted them. Whenever possible, the Centre puts at their disposal material necessary for their residency project. The period of residency can vary from 1 to 6 months.

La Napoule Art Foundation invites artists to take part in an art residency program.

La Napoule Art Foundation and Fondation David R. Graham are pleased to bring together Canadian artists of all genres to a new residency program in which artists will receive inspiration, support, and opportunities for career growth, while strengthening the intercultural connection between Canada and France.

LNAF will host Canadian artists in month-long residencies to take place in 2 cohorts (10 artists per) annually. Canadian resident artists’ works will be shared and promoted through exhibitions at the Château.

20 Canadian artists a year will enjoy an extraordinary cultural experience to practice their art in the company of other artists in a castle in the South of France.

Acceptance into this residency includes a generous travel and material stipend, room and board, studio space and time and space to create in an awe-inspiring locale.

Established and emerging Canadian artists from any discipline are encouraged to apply.

La Napoule Art Foundation (LNAF) nurtures artistic talent through residencies and community outreach, fostering the creative process as a catalyst for intercultural understanding. For over seventy years, LNAF has hosted performances, residencies, and exhibitions at the Château de La Napoule by artists the world over.

ABOUT FONDATION DAVID R. GRAHAM
Established in 2020 under the umbrella of the Fondation de France, the Fondation David R. Graham seeks to establish and invest in relationships with Canadian and French institutions to promote cultural exchange between France and Canada. It does so by providing a combination of scholarships and grants to fund Canadian art exhibitions in France and for Canadian artists to travel to France to experience France, work, teach, share expertise, etc.

Residents are housed in single rooms in the recently renovated Villa Marguerite, located across a small street from the Château. Rooms are equipped with private baths and each has sea or garden views. Wireless internet is available in the Villa’s common areas. Linen service is provided weekly. There is a washing machine, dryer, and clothesline at the Villa for residents’ use.

Established and emerging Canadian artists from any discipline are encouraged to apply. Studio space is provided, along with a materials stipend.

Studio / Workspace

LNAF provides each resident with a stipend, plus a studio space in which to work. Studios are located throughout the Château property, some inside the castle and some in towers on its grounds. Artists are asked to address any specific requirements for studio space in their applications.

La Napoule Art Foundation offers time and space for creative minds to engage in cultural interchange and meaningful work that impacts the world for the greater good. In addition to using this time to explore new ideas and develop their work, artists are expected to take every opportunity, especially mealtimes, to build community and friendship as well as to exchange ideas and experiences.There are opportunities to participate in workshops for local students in the La Napoule area. Artists will be invited to participate in an exhibition to take place at the Château every third year.

DRAWinternational invites artists to take part in the art residency program.

Are you a fine artist, an applied artist, a musician or a writer who requires one to three months in an environment conducive to serious research and experimentation? DRAWinternational caters to creative people in pursuit of new and dynamic forms, in preparation for exhibition, publication, or postgraduate qualification.

DRAWinternational is a centre of research for postgraduate art and design education and professional practice at their home and studios based at 8 rue du chateau, 82160 Caylus, France.

Artists are accommodated in self catering apartments with private rooms at our recently acquired building ” l’ancienne gendarmerie ” and also at the centre.

Catering: The centre provides weekday evening meals for all artists and uses fresh local produce in order to create delicious menus that incorporate regional specialities.

Studios: Artists are allocated individual studio spaces to suit particular project requirements both at the ” gendarmerie ” and at the centre.
