In the framework of this residency program, we are looking for projects where food grows to become one the media of contemporary art. We are particularly interested in concepts where the kitchen is conceived as common ground for a better understanding, where foodstuffs count as political, historical, and cultural beings. We would like to provide a space to projects examining the social dimension of food and which would consider working with Prague’s art scene, our international community of residents, and – last but not least – MeetFactory employees.
MeetFactory is a non-profit international centre for contemporary art. Our mission is to foster a dialogue between individual genres and make current developments on the art scene accessible to the broadest public. We support original projects in the fields of visual art, theatre, and music, as well as interdisciplinary and experimental platforms. We aim to create a space in which art is alive and artists are present, enhancing a direct exchange between international artists and visitors, as well as between different fields and generations.
From a seasonal trend in exhibition-making to yet another sub-medium in contemporary art, food is becoming an increasingly important element of today’s art practice. Over the course of the preceding decade, one can follow the appropriation of foodstuffs by a broad spectrum of artists developing community-based and socially engaged projects. It can be seen as another path to recognising identity politics or dealing with post-colonial topics. Since our residency programme is mainly oriented towards building relationships between the Prague art scene (art audiences and residents), we would like to use a food-oriented art practice as a platform for connection and mutual understanding. Let’s have a bite!
