Jan van Eyck Academie residency in Netherlands 2026
Artists and designers coming from all fields, architects, curators, writers and other artistic researchers, makers and critical thinkers, including duos and collectives, are invited to apply for an 11-month residency taking place in 2026 at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht, the Netherlands.

Benefits and support

Lasting 11 months, the residency runs from 15 January until 15 December 2026;

30 to 32 positions are selected through this general call. Next to individuals, duos, collectives as well as candidates with child(ren) are welcome to apply;

Housing – newly built and furnished – is included in the 11-month residency. The Jan van Eyck guarantees each participant a private studio apartment. The participant is required to accept the accommodation on offer;

Participants receive a monthly stipend of €1,500 of which the rental fee for accommodation, including service costs, is deducted. Please see our FAQ page for the financial overview;

Participants with child(ren) receive a monthly stipend of € 2,000 and a spacious private apartment which can accommodate the participant, their child(ren) and partner, if relevant. The rent, including service costs, is deducted from the stipend. If required, the Jan van Eyck applies for a visa on behalf of the whole family – the participant, child(ren), and the partner;

Each member of a duo receives a monthly stipend of €1,500 and a private studio apartment per person. The rent, including service costs, is deducted from the stipend;

A duo that is composed of life partners can share a private studio apartment and receives a combined monthly stipend of €2,500. The rent, including service costs, is deducted from the stipend;

Collectives receive a combined monthly stipend of €4,500 (a maximum of 3 monthly stipends) and will be housed in a maximum of 3 private studio apartments. (Collectives composed of more than 3 people, can be provided with accommodation on a rotation basis – exact details are arranged in mutual agreement between the collective and the JvE management). The rent, including service costs, is deducted from the stipend;

The provided accommodation can house the individual participant together with their life partner; however, the Jan van Eyck does not arrange any administrative matters on the partner’s behalf;

Participants receive an annual working budget of €2,000 to be spent on the realisation of their individual projects during the residency period;

If relevant, the Jan van Eyck applies for a visa on behalf of the participant;
