Fully Funded Art residency in China Craft residency programme 2026
The 3rd edition of the craft residency programme in China is inviting a French craftsperson working in contemporary ceramics to undertake a three-month research residency in Jingdezhen, China, in 2026. The programme is co-organised by the French Embassy in China with the Université Céramique de Jingdezhen and in partnership with the Manufactures nationales – Sèvres & Mobilier national.
This initiative builds on long traditions of craft and excellence in both France and China and aims to foster exchange and cooperation in the field of crafts, particularly focusing on ceramic practice and creative research. Participants will immerse themselves in Jingdezhen, often called the ‘porcelain capital’, and engage with local and international makers, institutions and ateliers to explore techniques, aesthetics and artisanal knowledge.
The residency supports the development and realisation of an original research project in contemporary craft, centred on ceramics or closely related fields. It offers professional and artistic guidance, access to facilities and materials at the host university, and opportunities for exchange with practitioners and key actors in the Chinese craft sector.
The residency will take place over three months, with a start date between September and December 2026; candidates can propose a minimum one-month stay within this period.
Eligibility
Applicants must be French nationals based in France, professionally active as contemporary crafts persons in ceramics (or related craft), and able to demonstrate high-quality work from raw material to manual fabrication. They should have basic communication skills in English or Chinese.
Support
The programme covers international travel, visa costs, accommodation and a living allowance. Residents will have access to university workshops, tools and necessary materials to carry out their project, and will benefit from professional and artistic support throughout the stay.
