The
Trout Museum of Art invites Wisconsin artists to submit new work for its annual
TMA Contemporary exhibition (formerly the SECURA Fine Arts Exhibition). Please
submit three images of the same work or images of up to three different works
(all in the same medium or each in different mediums).
IMPORTANT: three images are required to advance in your application.
Even if they are the same image submitted three times.

RULES/REGULATIONS
ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS:
- Work must have been completed in 2021-2022.
- Work selected will exemplify the Trout Museum of Art’s commitment to creating a safe space for all art practices. We want to see our best artists and community have meaningful conversations about art and compelling issues of our day.
- If there are specific installation needs for the work, please describe. Including pedestals, vitrines, technical audio-visual needs, special installation instructions, etc.
- If selected, work must be delivered to the Trout Museum of Art on one of the dates listed below. Shipping to and from the museum will be the responsibility of the artist.
- Artwork can be listed for sale at a price set by the artist – please note, the Trout Museum of Art will take a 35% commission on all sold work at the museum. Mark prices accordingly.

April 8, 2022.
JURY

Overview
The Computational Writing residency will allow writers to explore working at the intersection of computing and literary art, not only by using pre-developed tools but also by directly undertaking programming. The residency will consider how computation can be means for reflecting on one’s own writing process as well as for processing anything from small, curated collections of words to large text corpora.
This self-directed residency offers the opportunity to work away from the constraints of everyday life. Delve deep into your creative project and take advantage of the artistic community of your peers around you. The program provides opportunities for consultations with mentors, and optional group sessions led by guest mentors that allow writers to explore literary techniques, aspects, and devices that you may find useful in your practice.
You may also sign up for additional walks and day trips within Banff National Park as well as campus-wide activities organized by our Participant Resources team.
This flexible program allows you to choose the amount of support you are looking for. All program elements are optional.
What does the program offer?
This 13-day residency provides thematic teaching from faculty members, Q&A sessions, public events, and one-on-one workshopping.
Instructors will discuss ideas, experiences, and obstacles that participants may be encountering with their writing across genre.
Who should apply?
Experienced writers and programmers looking to explore the future of digital compositional techniques. We welcome writers from all backgrounds, and all gender identities and expressions.
Note: While the language of Banff Centre is English, we welcome projects in English or Spanish for this residency.

This two-week residency encourages the exploration of new ideas in journalism and experimentation in writing. Designed to challenge and stimulate, the program aims to inspire creative pieces of nonfiction and to assist the writers in their completion. A preeminent space for long-form journalism, this residency emphasizes the strengths of thorough and articulate reporting, distinctive storytelling, and literary devices. Work created in this program has been published in many outlets including The Globe and Mail, The Walrus, and The Atlantic, and pieces have gone on to win National Magazine and National Newspaper Awards.
What does the program offer?
This 13-day residency provides mentorship from faculty members and one-on-one workshopping. Instructors will discuss ideas, experiences, and obstacles that participants may be encountering with their literary journalism. Writers will have time to work on their manuscripts, receive individual consultations with faculty, and participate in group discussions.
Successful applicants will receive 100% scholarship to cover tuition, on-site accommodation, and on-site meals.
Who should apply?
Literary Journalism is designed for writers seeking a professional development opportunity in a community of peers with the guidance of an experienced writer/editor, as each participant prepares a long form piece (3,000 – 5,000 words).
Participants should be experienced professionals, active in the diversified fields of writing, including print or electronic media. This program is open to fiction and non-fiction writers, journalists, freelance critics or curators, artists, and academics, with an emphasis on those who can write for a lay audience with logic, vigour, and charm—and those who have a portfolio to prove it.
We welcome writers from all backgrounds, and all gender identities and expressions.
Please note: This program is run in English and participants are accepted for an English-language essay.
Accepted participants are expected to be on-site for the duration of the program.

Indigenous Haute Couture Fashion Residency will offer Indigenous textile-based artists with traditional and contemporary practices the opportunity to develop their design and pattern development skills, traditional, and digital embellishments all at haute couture level.
Indigenous fashion makers and designers will explore experimental elements or accomplish finished productions of their work with an haute couture aesthetic to the best of their capacity in a fully supported environment.
Overview
This three-week Indigenous Haute Couture Fashion Residency will offer Indigenous textile-based artists with traditional and contemporary practices the opportunity to develop their design and pattern development skills, traditional, and digital embellishments all at haute couture level.
Indigenous fashion makers and designers will explore experimental elements or accomplish finished productions of their work with an haute couture aesthetic to the best of their capacity in a fully supported environment.
What does the program offer?
This residency will have a repurpose and reuse component to the design process, exploring fashion’s responsibility to address its part in the climate crisis. Throughout the program, participants will design a couture garment inspired by their Indigeneity and based on the traditional silhouettes, lines and/or materials of their culture. Once the design illustration is finished, working drawings will be drafted and the pattern making process will begin using pattern blocks provided by the instructor and supported by Banff Centre’s costume production room.
Presented discussions with invited speakers will focus on Indigenous identity in the garment business and how culture plays a role, be it recycling, repurposing materials and/or related conversations.
This program will be delivered on campus, led by faculty lead D’Arcy Moses with the support of co-faculty member Christine Gerke, and guest faculty, Suzan Marie and Lucy Anne Yakelaya, expert traditional beadwork and moose hair tufters. Program faculty will support the participant’s exploration and research into Indigenous Haute Couture through their Indigenous lens.
Who should apply?
- Participants must have a background in fashion or garment design in womenswear.
- Participants must have a basic knowledge of pattern making in the garment business.
- Participants must have some experience in garment construction, sewing, and working with a sewing machine.
- The residency invites both youth 18+ and Elders to apply.
- This program is open to regional, national and global Indigenous fashion makers, designers and design companies, Indigenous jewelry makers, Indigenous beaders, Indigenous traditional artists including hide tanners and porcupine quillers, provocateurs, disrupters, advocates pushing the boundaries of their artistic practice, Indigenous artists that serve their community, Artistic leaders in Fashion Arts and collaborators of all performing arts disciplines.

EVALUATION CRITERIA
The Selection Committee will assign a score to each proposal for each of the following criteria: -consistency with the values of the ECoCbid, with the Borderless theme and with the 5 sub-themes described in Article 2.2; max. points: 30/100
-originality and readability, or the ability to expresscoexistence, boundlessness, community. max. points 40/100
-versatility in flexibility of use in various formats and communication materials, including video and 3D versions; max. points 20/100
-distinction and recognisability of the institutional and the commercial brand: max. points 10/100
All the proposals with a minimum overall score of 60/100will be finally ranked.
TYPE OF COMPETITION AND THE AWARD
The competitor ranked number 1 in the selection will receive an award of €10,000.00 (ten thousand euros). Once the designation has become effective, the award will be paid to the winner upon issue of a regular invoice or equivalent document. The prize is intended gross of any withholdings, i.e.,inclusive of taxes and any other contributions and is considered to be remuneration for professional services.
